Terminal Operations Leader
Location: Glenlee – Sydney, NSW
About the role:
Reporting to the National Terminals Manager, this role offers the opportunity to lead terminal operations at Aurizon’s Glenlee Terminal in Sydney and is responsible for ensuring seamless resource deployment, optimal asset utilisation, and top-tier customer service. You'll be at the forefront of driving safety and operational efficiency, while fostering a culture of teamwork with the terminal crew and continuous improvement within the container terminal yard.
Key Responsibilities of the Role:
- Champion and promote Aurizon’s “We know safe, We choose safe” approach.
- Achieve the agreed level of Terminal Performance to ensure we meet or exceed customers' and business expectations.
- Monitor the financial budgets, ensuring costs are controlled and revenue maximised.
- Managing asset utilisation to maximise the financial results of the business increasing labour productivity across the business.
- Liaise and collaborate with other relevant teams to achieve business objectives and optimise available resources.
- Direct and manage the allocation, utilisation and deployment of resources to meet all operational and customer needs.
- Build positive workplace relationships with the team providing engaged frontline leadership, including setting, coaching and monitoring of performance standards.
- Ensure the team’s ongoing compliance to local legislative WHS requirements, through consistent execution of Aurizon's safety strategy.
- Execute local strategies to support Operational Excellence with the goal of continuous improvement to reduce asset cycle times and improve service payloads.
- Identify opportunities for most efficient operations and customer delivery.
About you:
We are looking for a proactive and results-driven leader with a strong background in logistics and operations. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy problem-solving, and have a passion for driving efficiency and safety. Your ability to lead teams, engage stakeholders, and optimise processes will be key to success in this role.
You will ideally have:
- Minimum of 5 years' front-line leadership experience in a rail, large and complex logistics or heavy industrial environment.
- Deep understanding and knowledge of logistics and supply chain management preferably within the road and rail industry.
- Proven leadership experience in large-scale logistics operations management with the capacity to manage and develop your team.
- High customer service focus, excellent written, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively engage stakeholders and diverse work groups.
- A problem-solving mindset and analytical skills with the ability to optimise operational efficiency.
- Certificate IV or Diploma in Frontline Management (highly desired)
- Investigation experience (Preferred ICAM)
