An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Category Adviser to join Aurizon's Category Management – Plant & Equipment team.

Supporting Aurizon's Bulk & Containerised Freight business, this role plays an important part in ensuring the effective procurement and management of mobile plant and equipment critical to our operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded procurement professional who enjoys building stakeholder relationships, leading sourcing activities, and delivering value through strong supplier and contract management practices.

About the Role

Reporting to the Category Lead, you will contribute to the delivery of strategic procurement and supply chain outcomes across a complex and operationally critical category.

Working closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers, you will manage end-to-end sourcing activity, support supplier and contract performance, and help identify opportunities to improve commercial outcomes, manage risk and drive value for the business.

This role offers broad exposure across procurement, category management, supplier performance and commercial partnering, making it ideal for someone looking to further develop their career in a strategic procurement environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and execution of category and sourcing strategies for mobile plant and equipment.
  • Lead medium-complexity sourcing and tender activities, including negotiations, contract implementation, warranty management and dispute resolution.
  • Manage supplier relationships across Tier 2–4 suppliers and support broader supplier management activities across strategic suppliers.
  • Partner with stakeholders to identify, mitigate and manage procurement and commercial risks.
  • Monitor, track and report commercial benefits, savings and value delivery outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, governance requirements and Aurizon procurement frameworks.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance commercial performance, supplier effectiveness and business outcomes.

About You

We're interested in hearing from procurement professionals who combine strong commercial capability with a collaborative and solutions-focused approach.

You will ideally bring:

  • Experience in procurement, category management, commercial or supply chain roles within a large, complex or asset-intensive organisation.
  • Demonstrated capability in sourcing, contract negotiation and supplier relationship management.
  • Experience working with plant, equipment, maintenance, operations or similar categories will be highly regarded.
  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to balance stakeholder, supplier and business requirements.
  • High-level SAP purchasing experience together with strong Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and build effective working relationships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability with experience measuring and reporting procurement benefits and outcomes.
