Community Safety
Aurizon grant funds were used to build a raised platform and ramp at the rear of the Newcastle Mens shed. This ramp and platform allow for access for people with mobility issues, and provide a safe area to operate machines. Funds also went towards the installation of dust extraction pipes, and repainting of bathroom facilities.
Aurizon supported the South Coast Rescue Squad Incorporated by funding the purchase of a Jaws of Life tool for the Wollongong Volunteer Rescue squad, to be used in the event of emergencies in their local area.
Aurizon supported the purchase and installation a community shared AED device at the Stella community centre in Bowen. This support was also extended to training programs on the use of the AED, and first aid training. The new AED will be used at community events, providing further support to the local community.
Education
Aurizon supported Give Write with grant funds to purchase essential school supplies such as exercise books, glue, pencils cases, and rulers, which will be added to stationary packs and provided to underprivileged students across the Geraldton area.
Aurizon supported Aussie Helpers Brekkie in a Bag program at the Mt Larcom State School, providing a free nutritious breakfast program to local students. Brekkie bags include fresh fruit, non-perishable cereal/bars, and a protein beverage for every student.
Aurizon supported Charity Bounce Limited by funding the delivery of their Hoop Dreams initiative for young people, utilising sport as an engagement and employment facilitation tool. The program aims to empower young people in the Nyewente Community with the knowledge and skills to become future leaders and role models through training and employment initiatives.
Environment
Aurizon funding is being utilised to fund educational materials, event staffing, outreach to schools and community groups, marketing, and minor equipment upgrades to improve visitor experience and accessibility for stargazing events at the Gravity Discovery Centre.
Aurizon supported the purchase of an IDEXX Catalyst One blood chemistry machine for the Quoin Island Turtle Rehabilitation Centre, along with associated equipment that allows the centre to do in house blood chemistry testing on sick and injured Turtles in their care. This in-house testing allows the centre to better diagnose and treat injured turtles and reduce their average stay in care before being released back into the wild.
Aurizon supported the NSW Wildlife Information Rescue and Educations Service to construct a shed with cage attachment to be used in the rehabilitation and short-term care of wombats who have been brought to the centre by volunteers and members of the public and require care before being released back into the wild.
Health and Wellbeing
Aurizon is funding the purchase a CMAC 4 Video Laryngoscope and a compatible Protection Cap. These tools will be used to assist clinicians in the intubation process in emergency medical scenarios in the Katherine region of the Northern Territory.
Aurizon supported Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation Limited by funding the creation of the Mates Meals and Mental Health program in Whyalla, addressing a gap that exists in regional communities around mental health awareness and education
Aurizon supported Secondbite by funding the purchase of food items and the cost of delivery to the local Esperance community, helping to improve access to free nutritious food for community members experiencing hunger.
