Gareth Long

Gareth was appointed Group Executive Enterprise Services on 7 April 2026, after serving as Acting Chief Financial Officer and Group Executive Strategy since July 2025.

In the two years prior to this appointment, Gareth was the Group Executive Containerised Freight, driving Aurizon’s expansion into this growing segment of the national transport market. This included establishment of inter-capital linehaul services across Australia and landbridging services for car and container traffic via Darwin from the Asia Pacific region.

Gareth has held senior leadership roles in Aurizon over the past decade including Group Executive Corporate and Head of Risk and Assurance. 

Prior to joining Aurizon, Gareth worked in the oil and gas industry as well as professional services both in Australia and the United Kingdom.

Gareth holds a BSc (Hons) and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy.
